I am no pro, just an enthusiast.

When I got the cooper S, it took us (2 people) approx. 3 hours for a full detailing to get a perfect shine, including clay bar, plastic trims etc. but is was already in close to showroom condition.

Usually we always take around 3 hours to do each car we own, but they are all kept in very good condition. Here I am talking about cars that are driven approx. 10 times a year.

On the other hand, the red paint of the Mazda which I use for everyday does not fair well in summer conditions and when it was at its worst, it took me pretty much a full day to get it back to its original state!!!!! It was one of those days I'd love to forget! (to make things worse it was a heat wave in late June 38-40deg.)

With all respect, I don't think that cars in canada meet the same elements our cars in Malta do...

Dusty air, power station dust, all kinds of dirt on our roads, patched pot holes whose tarmac seems to stick more to your car rather than the roads, extremey hot temperatures all summer, dirty rain in winters to name a few...

then there is the other factor, you do this everyday!

No of course not we get extreme cold winters -40 in some cases all the roads are sanded and come spring that gets blown around like a sand blaster and sticks to the car summer as hot as +40. from the pictures u guys posted you all did very good work. in canada i just wish i could hire some of you who actually put care into there work. our pot holes are just as bad believe it or not and when they lay tar to fill in the cracks in the pavement in canada avoid it like the plague lol

Slinky, actually I agree with RedMaxda here.

i noticed that Maltese owned cars are much much more heavily swirled than the cars in the UK.

Why?

Take a sample of the air here and the size of the airborne particles is much bigger. Hence, swirls are imparted much faster.

CONVERSLELY:

Cars from the Uk suffer much more from:
1.Stone Chips - motorway speeds are higher
2. Windscreen Chips - same as above
3. TAR on the underside of the cars - PROPER tarmac on the roads not like the concrete we use here.

the g agrees with s2k

not to mention the cleaners at the local agents. I'm not joking, I've seen cleaners simply wipe down cars with wet rags that they'd just used to clean the plant pots! ... what owner wouldn't want to spend close to 200 grand on a car that's been swirled and scratched before it was even sold.

Cars here in Malta suffer from swirls for a lot of reasons, mainly improper washing of vehicles, dust particles in the air, and also the 'hardness' of Maltese water. It takes me approx 8-10 hrs to detail a car, with all stages involved, although i do another step which i dont know if any of you on here do it. After I polish, i wipe down each panel with IPA or Menzerna Top Inspection to check my work, and correct if necessary.
