CAR Audio | 2-DIN ICE

Postby danic on Sat Feb 27, 2010 4:16 pm

HI Guys,

I just bought a japan import (Corolla Runx 06) and I want to replace its current 2-din unit with a 7" inch touch screen 2-din head unit. I found something on Ebay which looks interesting:

What do you think and recommend? As regards speaker upgrades front/rear and maybe tweeters which make/local supplier do you recommend?

Thanks

I wouldnt suggest buying cheap stuff from ebay as you do get what you pay for, its not the first time ive heard stories about chinese stuff units refuse to work after a few days and of course you have no warranty ....

You should save up and buy a proper headunit from the likes of kenwood/jvc/clarion/alpine /pioneer etc

I also don't recommend buying a 2 din unit as most of these units are non removable (they dont have a removable faceplate) so even if its a cheapo unit you will end up with glass smashed and unit stolen.

You can get a flip up monitor with a removable faceplate and then fill up the recess with something like this. I have fitted one myself and it works well, but there are other units on the market...

This is the unit fitted in my fiesta.

Regarding speakers I would recommend audio connections fgura, Ksl Qormi, Tellymike Qormi, Autoray San Gwann it all depends on your budget.

Wrong there Aaron. Pioneer do have a double din unit with a detachable screen

But I agree with you, you get what you pay for. Thought this unit looks a little better than the Flux Capacitor or whatever that was.

cool thats the first double din Ive seen with a removable faceplate altough it is a bit on the big side to carry around with you. Always wondered why it took them so long :)

I have a friend who bought a chinese flip out screen, who only came out once from his sleeping position and never went back in! It was cheap at around 120 euros but that was money he wasted as he still had to buy something else after that s**t.

Usually the best way to buy a good unit is to buy a unit new but from the previous line up , i.e from the 2009 range rather then 2010, that will be 200 - 250 euros cheaper.

I beleive the faceplate/screen doubles up as a portable GPS unit so that should be why.

I've also seen units hidden behind a fake panel. Thats also another option.
